چکیده

a set of 18 simple sequence repeat (ssr) primer pairs was employed to assess the genetic diversity in a collection of 52 melon genotypes that consisted of 24 melon accessions representing different horticultural groups of iranian cultivated melons, along with 28 reference accessions from diverse foreign geographical origins. all the studied ssr loci were polymorphic, confirming their potential for genetic analysis in melons. a total number of 141 alleles were detected among all the genotypes, out of which 79 alleles with an average of 4.38 alleles per locus were observed for the iranian accessions. the low variability within iranian melon accessions was reflected by the low values of the observed heterozygosity (with an average of 0.12), indicating either a lack of intercrossing between accessions or a high rate of inbreeding. consecutive selections by farmers for keeping accession traits might be considered as an explanation for the relatively high observed homozygosity. values of observed homozygosity for ‘suski-e sabz’ and ‘khatouni’, as the most cultivated melons in iran, amounted to 0.98 and 0.99, respectively. the highest level of polymorphism was detected among the group dudaim populations (with 100 percent of polymorphic loci).

Genetic diversity of Iranian melon cultigens revealed by AFLP markers

Iran is a part of the secondary centre of origin of melons, and therefore, there is a wealth of genetic variation of these species in this country. The Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism (AFLP) marker was applied to investigate the genetic variations among five major Iranian melon cultigens (Cucumis melo) and ‘Ananasi’ as a general well-known cultivar. Ten primer pairs were used on 90 indiv...

Analysis of genetic diversity between and within Iranian accessions of spinach (Spinacia oleraceae) by SRAP markers

Spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.) is an economically important leafy vegetable crop in many countries. This is the first case study of using SRAP markers to analyze genetic diversity of Iranian spinach accessions. Eight SRAP primer combinations generated 88 scorable bands ranging from 50 to 1000 bp, among which 73 were polymorphic, with an average of 82.9 polymorphic bands per primer combination a...

Assessment of genetic diversity and relationship of coastal salt tolerant rice accessions of Kerala (South India) using microsatellite markers

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is one of the most significant cereal crops, about 3 billion people, nearly half the world's population; depend on rice for survival and it offers up to 80% of daily energy intake in most of the Asian countries. Knowledge of the distribution, extent and pattern of genetic variation is useful for estimation of any possible loss of genetic diversity and its role in breeding...

Assessment of genetic diversity in Iranian wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars and lines using microsatellite markers

In this study, genetic diversity of 20 wheat genotypes was evaluated using 126 simple sequence repeats (SSR) alleles, covering all three wheat genomes. A total of 1557 allelic variants were detected for 126 SSR loci. The number of alleles per locus ranged from 4 to 19 and the allelic polymorphism information content (PIC) varied from 0.66 (Xgwm429) to 0.94 (Xgwm212 and Xgw...
